Approximately one year ago a crazy idea was thrown on the Facebook group of the local Nerdfighters: walk 500 miles for charity. This idea, however mad, was the start of an amazing adventure; our adventure. We founded 500 Miles of Awesome on the 20th of May 2012 as an organization that aims to organize charitable gatherings. The first event happened on October 6th 2012 and consisted of a Charity Walk in the cities of Antwerp and Utrecht where we raised over €1400 and made the first lending round using kiva. Almost a year later we are planning another event and have a bright future in mind.

Furthermore, since May 20th is our birthday we can’t let it pass unnoticed. As an organization that promotes awesome and charity we decided we’d mark this first birthday. We plan to do this by encouraging our collaborators, that means you, to promote values we stand for as an organization but also as Nerdfighters. These values, amongst others, are love, kindness and fun. Therefore it is our plan to post an “Awesome Seal” every morning starting tomorrow and ending on the 20th. You can earn these by decreasing worldsuck and increasing awesome.

In a more practical way it means you will be able to share and/or reblog the original post containing the Seal adding your story as a comment. We hope that this will inspire people and brighten their week as well as the week of their relatives, acquaintances and perhaps strangers.

So prepare for an amazing birthday week and as always Don’t Forget To Be Awesome!

“Antwerp 2.0” in Antwerp (11/05/2013)

This is a second edition to last years magnificent Antwerp gathering. The discussion for activities is open in Ourpants. For the moment it seems like we’ll end up improvising so bring your ninja skills, Rubik’s Cubes and other gathering proof games!

“Watsky Concert” in Brussels (17/05/2013)

George Watsky has a stop in Brussels for the tour of his new album ‘Cardboard Castles”. He will perform at the Ancienne Belgique. The concert starts around 20.00. More info about tickets here [x] and the facebook event can be found there [x].

“Nerdfighters are coming” in Amsterdam (19/05/2013)

There will be a Game of Thrones exhibition in Amsterdam. The access is free of charge and thus a gathering is the natural outcome. There might be dinner plans.

“Trip to Portugal” in Porto (23/05/2013)

A nerdfighter weekend trip to Porto, Portugal. Many activities and sightseeing planned. Amongst the activities were listed: a fine arts museum, a night concert, a contemporary arts museum and walks. More details about the travel and the specific activities can be found on the facebook page [x]

Around 10:30 there is a speech by the former queen and the new king. Around 14:00 the king will be inaugurated. Of course this is something we want to watch on tv, so we have two tvs in our home on which we can all watch the new king. There doesn’t seem to be much more to do, except in Amsterdam. I guess we could just have a nice nerdfightergathering between all the tv watching. We can play games, watch series or play games like singstar. Who’s in?
